Picture Shop New York’s Supervising Colorist Steven Bodner reunites with cinematographer David Mullen, ASC to grade the fourth season of the award-winning Amazon original series.
The harmonious color palate of the period comedy drama created by Amy Sherman-Palladino has been consistent since the airing in 2017. The custom LUT created by Bodner with cinematographer David Mullen, ASC for season 1 season continues to be used. “The lively and colorful look of the show hasn’t changed since the pilot,’ said Mullen. “Season 4 had some new sets, the two primary ones being The Wolford, a burlesque club, and Susie’s Times Square office. For the lighting of The Wolford, I was inspired by the movie “Cabaret” and some color photos that Gordon Parks took of The Latin Quarter Nightclub in 1958 for Life Magazine.”
“It’s a true pleasure to work on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - from the lighting to the beautiful sets and costumes by Donna Zakowska,” said Bodner. “I try to keep colors true to their original tones, not letting things get blown out of crushed.”Color reviews took place at a custom color suite created at the Steiner Lot in Brooklyn. The showrunners and producers were able to do real-time color reviews on-site with Steve remotely.
