The Signature LUT Is the First Ever Designed in Collaboration with a Hollywood Colorist and Offered Natively in Sony’s VENICE 2

Picture Shop is proud to highlight its collaboration with Sony and Supervising Colorist Mitch Paulson on the Signature LUT for Sony's VENICE 2 digital cinema camera. The Signature LUT was developed by Sony in collaboration with Picture Shop and awardwinning colorist Mitch Paulson and is available as a preset for on-set monitoring during shooting. It marks the first time a LUT was designed in collaboration with a major Hollywood colorist and preinstalled in Sony’s VENICE 2 digital cinema camera. Sony’s VENICE 2 has been used on more than 500 productions, including feature films and premium streaming and television episodic.

“At Sony, we are committed to empowering creators through the power of creativity and technology. We are proud to collaborate with Picture Shop on the development of Signature LUT, bringing together Sony’s imaging expertise and Picture Shop’s creative experience. Designed to help filmmakers more fully experience the imaging capabilities of VENICE 2 during monitoring, Signature LUT makes its rich dynamic range and tonal characteristics easier to appreciate. We hope this collaboration will provide creators with new opportunities to explore the expressive potential of VENICE 2," said Nobutatsu Takahashi, Senior General Manager of Cinema Line Division, New Contents Creation Business Unit, Sony Corporation.

“It was an incredible honor to work with Sony’s cinema team to bring their vision to life. They wanted to create an additional in-camera LUT that allowed filmmakers to leverage the sensor's full dynamic range. It’s exciting to see this collaboration offered in camera to give filmmakers a filmic alternative in testing and filming environments,” said Mitch Paulson, Supervising Colorist at Picture Shop.

Designed to have a natural cinematic look, the Signature LUT offers a true-to-color picture with balanced shadows and highlights to preserve detail in deep blacks and bright whites. It also ensures consistency and natural skin tones across the tonal range.

The Signature LUT offers a refined, neutral alternative to the established s709 LUT that comes preinstalled in Sony’s professional digital cinema cameras. While the s709 LUT is warm and features stronger highlight contrast, the Signature LUT offers balanced contrast and saturation, allowing filmmakers to leverage the sensor's full dynamic range while maintaining color accuracy. That means reds, blues, greens, whites and other colors are all color-accurate while skin tones remain flattering.

The Signature LUT is designed to appeal to filmmakers transitioning from other professional systems. It is free and is pre-installed in Sony’s VENICE 2 Version 5.00 or later.

The Signature LUT was designed in collaboration with Picture Shop Supervising Colorist Mitch Paulson, an award-winning colorist with more than 20 years of experience in film and television.

Paulson has worked with many of the industry’s most acclaimed filmmakers on features including “Blade Runner 2049,” “Skyfall,” “Sicario” and “Alien: Romulus.” Paulson’s episodic work includes collaborations with Taylor Sheridan on lauded series such as “1923,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” “Lioness” and “Landman.” A Minnesota native, Paulson has been nominated for several HPA awards, receiving the Award for Outstanding Color Grading for his work on Disney’s “Jungle Cruise.”
